Client: Cardington Hangars

Scope of Work: Removal of old debris netting and installation of new safety netting.

Project Overview:

The Cardington Hangars are iconic, historic structures originally constructed in the early 20th century to house airships. Their vast internal spaces and intricate steel frameworks make them both architecturally significant and uniquely challenging to work in. Kaizen Group was commissioned to install new safety netting ahead of a planned refurbishment, ensuring the building was safe for surveyors and construction teams.

Complex and High-Risk Execution:

Parts of the hangar roof were unstable, with loose debris posing a significant hazard. Before a full structural survey could take place, our rope access team was tasked with climbing the internal steelwork—navigating the enormous, open spaces—to carefully remove the old netting and install robust, safer netting.

The operation required meticulous planning, precision, and expertise. Despite the extreme risk and scale of the task, the work was executed with zero safety incidents and minimal disruption to ongoing site operations, highlighting Kaizen Group’s unparalleled competence in high-risk environments.

Client Benefits:

Safety: The new netting drastically reduced risk for all personnel entering the hangar.

Efficiency: Works were completed quickly and safely, enabling the refurbishment project to progress on schedule.

Confidence: The client could proceed with surveys and future works knowing the site was secure.

Conclusion:

This project illustrates Kaizen Group’s ability to manage exceptionally high-risk, complex projects with professionalism, precision, and safety as the highest priority. Our rope access expertise allowed us to deliver one of the most challenging tasks we’ve ever undertaken with complete success.
